If your DOF Reality motion platform does not start, initialize, or respond to movement commands, the problem may involve power, an emergency stop, a controller connection, software configuration, or a motor-related fault.
This guide will help you narrow down the cause.
Common Symptoms
- The platform does not move when powered on.
- The platform does not initialize.
- SRS connects but the platform does not respond.
- The platform starts and then stops.
- One side of the platform does not respond.
- The platform displays an error.
- The platform moves unexpectedly during startup or shutdown.
Before You Begin: Safety
Make sure the platform is clear of people, pets, and loose objects.
Do not sit in the platform while investigating unexpected motion or a suspected mechanical problem.
If the platform drops suddenly, moves uncontrollably, or cannot safely support its load, stop using it immediately and contact DOF Reality Support.
Do not repeat startup or shutdown tests to reproduce an unsafe movement.
Step 1: Check Power
- Make sure the platform is connected to a suitable power outlet.
- Verify that the external power connections are secure.
- Check that the power switch is on, if applicable.
- Observe whether the controller displays its normal power indicators.
- Inspect external power cables for visible damage.
If there is no power indication, do not open the power supply or controller.
Contact support if the external connections appear correct but the platform remains unpowered.
Step 2: Check the Emergency Stop
If your platform is equipped with an emergency-stop button:
- Check whether it is engaged.
- Follow the platform’s instructions to release it.
- Confirm that the surrounding area is clear.
- Retry initialization only if no other safety concern exists.
Do not bypass the emergency-stop system.
Step 3: Check the Controller Connection
- Open SRS.
- Check whether the platform is detected.
- Verify that the USB connection is secure.
- Try a known-good USB data cable if the controller is not detected.
- Connect directly to a PC USB port.
- Close other controller or diagnostic applications.
If the platform cannot be detected, follow the separate PC connection troubleshooting article.
Step 4: Check for Error Messages
Look for errors displayed by SRS or the controller.
Record:
- The exact error text.
- Which motor or channel is affected, if shown.
- Whether the error appears immediately or after movement begins.
- Whether the problem started after a software update or hardware change.
Do not repeatedly clear a persistent motor or controller error and continue operating the platform.
Step 5: Check for Obstructions
With power off and the platform safely supported:
- Look for objects blocking platform movement.
- Check for cables caught near moving components.
- Inspect for visibly damaged or displaced components.
- Confirm that the platform has adequate clearance.
Do not place hands near mechanisms that could move or drop.
Do not force the platform into position manually.
Step 6: Check SRS Configuration
If the controller is detected and no hardware fault is indicated:
- Confirm that the correct platform is selected in SRS.
- Check for software warnings.
- Review the platform’s initial setup instructions.
- Confirm that the required software configuration has been completed.
If the platform previously worked and stopped after a software change, record the change before modifying additional settings.
Step 7: Run a Controlled Movement Test
Only attempt this if:
- No motor or controller fault is displayed.
- No abnormal noise or mechanical obstruction is present.
- The platform has not dropped or moved unexpectedly.
- The platform is correctly assembled and safely positioned.
Follow the approved SRS movement-test instructions for your platform.
If the platform moves normally
The platform can respond to movement commands. If motion fails only in a game, investigate game telemetry and SRS configuration.
If the platform does not move
Record the connection status and any error messages, then contact support.
If movement is abnormal
Stop immediately and do not continue testing.
When to Contact Support
Contact DOF Reality Support if:
- The platform has no power despite correct external connections.
- Initialization repeatedly fails.
- A motor or controller error persists.
- The platform does not move during an approved movement test.
- The platform moves unevenly or unexpectedly.
- The platform drops or shifts abruptly during shutdown.
Include the model, error messages, power/controller status, SRS screenshots, and a description of what happens during startup.
